Abrams (shoulder) was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the Guardians, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. Abrams was penciled in to start at shortstop and bat leadoff but has instead been scratched for the second straight game due to a jammed left shoulder. The 23-year-old should be considered day-to-day heading into Monday's series opener versus the Mets. Ildemaro Vargas will start at shortstop Sunday in place of Abrams.... See More ... See Less

Nationals' CJ Abrams: Rejoining lineup Sunday
Abrams (shoulder) is starting at shortstop and batting leadoff Sunday against the Guardians, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. The 23-year-old jammed his shoulder on a diving play Friday and was scratched from Saturday's lineup, but he's back in the starting nine for Sunday's series finale in Cleveland. Abrams is in a bit of a funk at the plate, as he's gone 0-for-14 with eight strikeouts over his past three contests.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' CJ Abrams: Scratched from lineup
Abrams was scratched from the Nationals' lineup prior to Saturday's game against the Guardians. Abrams said that he jammed his shoulder while making a diving play during Friday's loss, per Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com, and it seems to be bothering him enough Saturday to warrant a day off. While Abrams recovers, Ildemaro Vargas will take over at shortstop and bat eighth.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' CJ Abrams: Goes deep again Monday
Abrams went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Monday's win over Atlanta. The shortstop launched a solo shot off Charlie Morton in the second inning, giving the Nationals an early 5-0 lead. Abrams has gone yard in back-to-back contests to snap a 22-game power drought, but he hasn't crawled out of his May swoon quite yet -- he hasn't stolen a base in 19 straight games, and he's slashing just .221/.237/.338 over that stretch with a 1:18 BB:K.... Nationals' CJ Abrams: Launches eighth homer
Abrams went 1-for-4 with a three run home run in Sunday's 9-5 loss to Seattle. Abrams broke out of a minor slump Sunday, slugging his first home run since April 29 and recording his first RBI since May 18. He has cooled off significantly in the month of May, slashing .209/.225/.256 with four RBI and eight runs scored. Despite the recent struggles, the 23-year-old has still had a productive season, batting .257 with eight home runs, 21 RBI, 30 runs scored and eight stolen bases.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' CJ Abrams: Tallies three hits in loss
Abrams went 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI in Saturday's extra-inning loss to Philadelphia. Abrams had been in a minor rut coming into Saturday, going 1-for-13 over his previous four games. He broke the skid with his first three-hit performance since April 23 while collecting his first RBI since May 8. Abrams' production has fallen off in May -- he's batting .230 with a 1:14 BB:K this month -- but he's still carrying a solid .271/.330/.494 slash line with seven homers, 21 RBI, 28 runs and eight stolen bases on the season.... Nationals' CJ Abrams: Getting rare day off
Abrams is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. The lefty-hitting Abrams started in both ends of Tuesday's doubleheader and the White Sox are bringing a lefty (Garrett Crochet) to the hill for Wednesday's series finale, so Nationals manager Dave Martinez likely decided that Abrams could benefit from a game off. With Abrams out of the lineup for the first time since April 8, lightly used Rule 5 pick Nasim Nunez will pick up a rare start at shortstop.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' CJ Abrams: Productive in big win
Abrams went 1-for-3 with two walks, a two-run home run, a second run scored and a stolen base in Monday's 7-2 win over the Marlins. The 23-year-old shortstop was once again the engine of the Nationals' offense from the leadoff spot, as Abrams took Trevor Rogers deep in the third inning then teamed up with Jacob Young for a double steal in the fifth. Abrams has reached base safely in 15 straight games, and on the season he's slashing .297/.377/.634 with seven homers, six stolen bases, 17 RBI and 21 runs in 25 contests.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' CJ Abrams: Nabs fifth steal
Abrams went 1-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in Thursday's loss to the Dodgers. The 23-year-old shortstop saw a nine-game hitting streak end on Wednesday, but he wasted no time getting going again. Over his last 14 contests since returning from a minor finger injury, Abrams is slashing .293/.349/.638 with four of his six homers and two of his five steals on the season.... See More ... Nationals' CJ Abrams: Goes yard again Saturday
Abrams went 2-for-5 with a double, a solo home run and a second run scored in Saturday's 5-4 extra-inning win over the Astros. The shortstop led off the bottom of the first inning by launching Ronel Blanco's first pitch of the afternoon over the fence in right field. Abrams is up to six homers on the season, including three in the last five contests, and Saturday's performance extended his hitting streak to seven games -- a stretch in which he's batting .345 (10-for-29) with a stunning .931 SLG, as nine of the hits (four doubles, two triples, three home runs) have gone for extra bases.... Nationals' CJ Abrams: Smacks fifth homer
Abrams went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's win over the Dodgers. He drove the second big-league pitch of Landon Knack's career over the fence in right-center field, giving the Nats all the offense they would need as Jake Irvin and the bullpen combined for a shutout. Abrams launched a career-high 18 homers in 2023 but is well ahead of that pace to begin this season, slashing .295/.358/.656 with five home runs, three steals, 10 runs and 11 RBI in 15 games.... Nationals' CJ Abrams: Goes deep in win
Abrams went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, an additional run and a double in Monday's 6-4 victory against the Dodgers. Abrams led off the game with a double, reached third base on a groundout and scored on a Tyler Glasnow wild pitch. He added a solo homer off Tyler Glasnow in the third inning to round out a productive night. Abrams has gone 5-for-13 over his past three games, with all five of his hits during that span going for extra bases. On the season, he has an impressive 1.004 OPS with four homers, three doubles, two triples, 10 RBI, nine runs and three stolen bases over 60 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' CJ Abrams: Drives in three against Giants
Abrams went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run batted in Tuesday against San Francisco. Abrams tagged starter Kyle Harrison for the two-run shot in the third inning, marking the shortstop's third long ball of the 2024 season. While it's still early, Abrams has seen a massive power spike in his third MLB season, with his ISO jumping up from .167 in 2023 to .344 through eight games. He ranks second in home runs at the shortstop position, trailing only Mookie Betts.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' CJ Abrams: Back in lineup Tuesday
Abrams (finger) will start at shortstop and bat leadoff Tuesday versus the Giants, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. Abrams will be back in the lineup after missing the last three contests with a bone bruise on his left pinky. The 23-year-old currently owns a six-game hitting streak, batting .375 with two homers, five RBI, five runs scored and three stolen bases over those contests.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' CJ Abrams: Aiming for Tuesday return
Abrams (finger) will participate in baseball drills Monday and hopes to return to the lineup Tuesday against San Francisco, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. Abrams won't be available for Monday's series opener, but if all goes well, his absence should be a relatively short one after suffering a bone bruise of his left pinky finger during Friday's contest. The team should have more information on Abrams' availability after going through baseball activities.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' CJ Abrams: Held out again Monday
Abrams (finger) remained out of the lineup for Monday's game in San Francisco, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. It's the third straight game he's missed with a bone bruise of his left pinky finger. Abrams should still be considered day-to-day for the time being. Ildemaro Vargas will fill in again at shortstop Monday and Jacob Young will bat leadoff.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' CJ Abrams: Remains on bench Sunday
Abrams (finger) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports. The 23-year-old shortstop was scratched from Saturday's lineup due to a bone bruise of his left pinky finger, and he'll sit for the second straight game Sunday. Abrams should be considered day-to-day as Ildemaro Vargas receives a start at shortstop.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' CJ Abrams: Day-to-day with bruised finger
Abrams is considered day-to-day due to a bone bruise of his left pinky finger, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Abrams was a late scratch from Saturday's lineup with an injury that occurred on a slide into second base Friday. Fortunately, it does not appear to be anything that could keep the young shortstop out long. Expect Abrams back in there in a day or two.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' CJ Abrams: Scratched Saturday
Abrams was scratched from the Nationals' lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the Phillies, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. The Nationals have yet to provide a reason for Abrams' removal, but he could be experiencing problems with his left hand after making a slide into second base during Friday's contest. Nasim Nunez will make his first career big-league start as Abrams' replacement, batting ninth.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' CJ Abrams: Goes deep in loss
Abrams went 2-for-5 with a solo home run against the Pirates in a loss Thursday. Abrams was the only National to log multiple hits in the contest, and he hit the team's only homer -- a solo shot in the fifth inning. The shortstop has gotten off to a great start this season, slashing .333/.407/.667 with two homers, five RBI, five runs and three steals through six games. His speed remains his biggest asset from a fantasy perspective, but he slugged 18 long balls last year and has enough pop in his bat to exceed that number this season.... See More ... See Less
