  • Giants' Trenton Brooks: Taking seat against lefty

Brooks is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees.

Though he'll take a seat while southpaw Nestor Cortes takes the hill for the Yankees, the lefty-hitting Brooks appears to have settled in as the strong side option of a platoon at first base with the right-handed-hitting Wilmer Flores. Brooks has started in the Giants' last three matchups with righties and has gone 1-for-6 with two walks and two runs in four games overall since he was called up from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday following LaMonte Wade's (hamstring) placement on the injured list.

  • Nolan Schanuel 1B | LAA

Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Absence continuing Sunday

Schanuel (thumb) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners.

It's the third straight absence for Schanuel as he manages soreness in his left thumb. Willie Calhoun will receive another start at first base for the Halos.

  • Andrew Vaughn 1B | CHW

White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: Out Sunday with finger injury

Vaughn (finger) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers.

Vaughn will be on the bench for a third game in a row with a sprained left ring finger. The White Sox continue to view Vaughn as day-to-day, and with a team off day Monday, Vaughn could be ready to go for the start of the team's two-game series with the Cubs on Tuesday. Gavin Sheets will fill in at first base for Vaughn on Sunday.

  • Rockies' Elehuris Montero: Taking seat Sunday

Montero is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports.

Montero started the previous six games but will head to the bench Sunday after batting .167 during that span. Kris Bryant will shift to first base while Bredan Rodgers serves as the designated hitter and Alan Trejo starts at second base.

  • Michael Busch 1B | CHC

Cubs' Michael Busch: On bench versus lefty

Busch is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.

It's the third straight game on the bench for the 26-year-old, and this time it comes as lefty Nick Lodolo takes the mound for the Reds. Busch had a hot start to the campaign with a 1.062 OPS in his first 19 contests, but he has a .186/.292/.314 slash line and 38.3 percent strikeout rate in his past 35 games. Patrick Wisdom will start at first base Sunday for the Cubs.

  • Nate Lowe 1B | TEX

Rangers' Nathaniel Lowe: Idle against lefty again

Lowe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins.

The lefty-hitting Lowe will remain on the bench for the second day in a row while the Rangers oppose another left-handed starter (Trevor Rogers). The Rangers will turn to Ezequiel Duran to replace Lowe at first base.

  • Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Reclaiming playing time at first base

Soderstrom will start at first base and bat ninth in Sunday's game against Atlanta.

The lefty-hitting Soderstrom has now started in three of Oakland's last four matchups with right-handed pitchers and appears to have displaced J.D. Davis as the Athletics' preferred option at the position. Soderstrom is still likely to occupy the strong side of a platoon at first base with either Davis or Aledmys Diaz.

  • Astros' Jon Singleton: Losing out to Jose Abreu

Singleton is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins.

For the third time in four matchups with a right-handed starting pitcher (Simeon Woods Richardson), the lefty-hitting Singleton finds himself on the bench. Though he initially looked poised to hold down a strong-side platoon role at first base when the right-handed-hitting Jose Abreu was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday, Singleton appears to have since moved into a pure reserve role.

  • Rhys Hoskins 1B | MIL

    Brewers' Rhys Hoskins: Resting Sunday

Hoskins is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.

Hoskins will get a break from the starting lineup after going 3-for-9 in the first two games of the series following his return from the injured list. Jake Bauers will get the start at first base and bat sixth.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Draws first start at 3B since 2019

Guerrero will start at third base and bat third in Sunday's game against the Pirates.

According to Keegan Matheson of MLB.com, Guerrero has been taking grounders at third base in workouts all season, but he was believed to be more of an emergency option at the position after he had seen the bulk of his starts at first base or designated hitter over the past four-plus seasons. Regular third baseman Isiah Kiner-Falefa is healthy, however, and will get the start at second base Sunday, so Guerrero's inclusion at the hot corner could signal that the Blue Jays may be willing to give him more regular work at the position moving forward. Guerrero will be starting at third base Sunday for the first time since Sept. 27, 2019, with all four innings that he's played at the position since then coming as a replacement for a starter during the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
