  • Elias Diaz C | COL

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Getting rest Sunday

Diaz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

Diaz will receive a breather for the series finale in Los Angeles after he had started at catcher or designated hitter in each of the Rockies' previous six games. Jacob Stallings will handle catching duties Sunday in Diaz's stead.

  • Giants' Patrick Bailey: Taking seat for series finale

Bailey is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees.

Bailey will get a breather for the series finale after he started at catcher Friday and Saturday while going 2-for-7 with a walk. Curt Casali will step in behind the dish Sunday.

  • Austin Wells C | NYY

Yankees' Austin Wells: Sitting against southpaw

Wells is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.

Wells had started behind the plate while the Yankees faced right-handed starting pitchers in both of the past two games, but the lefty-hitting catcher will take a seat for the series finale while southpaw Blake Snell toes the rubber for the Giants. Jose Trevino will pick up the start at catcher.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Receiving Sunday off

Smith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.

Smith started the previous five games and will receive the day off for Sunday's series finale versus Colorado. Austin Barnes will step in behind the plate to catch for righty Gavin Stone.

  • Rangers' Andrew Knizner: Heading back to bench Sunday

Knizner is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins.

Knizner will be back on the bench after he started at catcher in Saturday's 7-0 win, finishing 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run. The start was just his second in the Rangers' last 11 games, as Knizner continues to receive limited playing time behind No. 1 backstop Jonah Heim.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Late addition to lineup

Contreras is starting behind the plate and batting second Sunday against the White Sox.

The 26-year-old catcher was scheduled to receive his first day off of the season Sunday, but he apparently convinced manager Pat Murphy to continue the starting streak. Contreras has gone 6-for-25 with no extra-base hits over the past six games versus the Cubs and White Sox.

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Getting rest Sunday

Langeliers is out of the lineup for Sunday's game in Atlanta.

  • Connor Wong C | BOS

Red Sox's Connor Wong: Sitting again Sunday

Wong is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.

Wong is on the bench for the second day in a row, but the Red Sox haven't indicated that their top backstop is dealing with any sort of injury or illness. Reese McGuire will get another turn behind the dish Sunday at Wong's expense.

  • Rays' Ben Rortvedt: Idle against lefty

Rortvedt is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Rortvedt will hit the bench along with fellow left-handed hitters Jonathan Aranda, Brandon Lowe and Richie Palacios as the Rays roll a full right-handed-hitting lineup versus Orioles southpaw Cole Irvin. Alex Jackson will spell Rortvedt behind the plate.
