  • Jorge Mateo 2B | BAL

Orioles' Jorge Mateo: Going through concussion protocol

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Mateo is going through the concussion protocol after exiting Sunday's game versus the Rays, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Mateo was struck in the head by the bat of teammate Cedric Mullins around the on-deck circle and was subsequently removed from the contest. It remains to be seen if Mateo will miss additional time, and he should be considered day-to-day as he continues to be evaluated.

  • Alan Trejo 2B | COL

Rockies' Alan Trejo: Picking up rare start Sunday

Trejo will start at second base and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

Trejo will crack the starting nine for the first time since May 24 while everyday second baseman Brendan Rodgers gets a day out of the field and serves as the Rockies' designated hitter. Though he's been on the active roster since Opening Day, Trejo has made just 12 starts in 58 games and has logged only 34 plate appearances.

  • Gavin Lux 2B | LAD

Dodgers' Gavin Lux: On bench against lefty

Lux is not in the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Rockies.

Lux has gone 3-for-17 over his past six contests and will head to the bench Sunday as southpaw Austin Gomber takes the mound for Colorado. Miguel Rojas will step in at the keystone and bat sixth in the series finale.

  • Jorge Mateo 2B | BAL

Orioles' Jorge Mateo: Departs with head injury

Mateo was removed from Sunday's game against the Rays with an apparent head injury, Melanie Newman of MASN reports.

The 28-year-old appeared to be struck in the head by a bat around the on-deck circle during the fourth inning and was replaced by a pinch hitter shortly thereafter. He singled in his lone plate appearance before exiting the contest. The specifics of the injury are unclear, but Mateo is likely being evaluated for a concussion.

  • Giants' Thairo Estrada: Not in Sunday's lineup

Estrada (thumb) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The 28-year-old jammed his thumb Friday against New York and will sit Sunday for the second consecutive contest. Brett Wisely will shift to second base in place of Estrada while Casey Schmitt starts at shortstop.

  • Nick Loftin 2B | KC

Royals' Nick Loftin: Getting steady playing time

Loftin will start at second base and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Padres.

Loftin was excluded from the lineup in the Royals' first two games following his call-up from Triple-A Omaha last Sunday, but he's now getting his fifth start in six games Sunday. Four of those starts have come at second base, and he looks like he could be the preferred option at the position over Adam Frazier until Michael Massey (back) returns from the injured list.

  • Brewers' Andruw Monasterio: Pulled from lineup Sunday

Monasterio was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the White Sox.

The 27-year-old was scheduled to bat ninth as the designated hitter, but William Contreras and Willy Adames were late additions to the lineup after initially being scheduled for days off. Monasterio should continue to operate as a bench bat while seeing some stars against left-handed pitching.

  • Andres Gimenez 2B | CLE

Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Out against righty Sunday

Gimenez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.

Gimenez took a seat Saturday against southpaw Mitchell Parker, but the lefty-hitting infielder will remain on the bench for the series finale versus the Nationals even while a right-hander (Jake Irvin) takes the bump for Washington. The Guardians may have just been looking to get an extended break for Gimenez, who had started in every game dating back to May 10 before his back-to-back absences. Daniel Schneemann was called up from Triple-A Columbus earlier Sunday and will pick up his first MLB start in place of Gimenez at the keystone.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | TB

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Resting against southpaw

Lowe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Lowe will hit the bench along with fellow left-handed hitters Jonathan Aranda, Ben Rortvedt and Richie Palacios as the Rays roll a full right-handed-hitting lineup versus Orioles southpaw Cole Irvin. Amed Rosario will fill in for Lowe at second base.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Getting afternoon off

Altuve is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins.

Altuve is on the bench for just the second time all season and the first time since May 12 in what looks to be nothing more than a routine maintenance day. Mauricio Dubon will step in at second base for Altuve, who is currently in the midst of a seven-game hitting streak.
